Cathryn (Cate) Asp
Research Analyst
Cathryn (Cate) Asp is a research analyst at HAI Group, where she helps maintain the National Housing Preservation Database (NHPD) and contributes to research on affordable housing programs. Cate’s work has ranged from research on disaster disparities in affordable housing and how housing providers can incorporate equity in their communities to advising non-profits on strategies to leverage HAI Group’s data tools to quantify and preserve multifamily affordable housing in their community. An experienced data analyst, Cate has spent the bulk of her career focusing on public policy, economics, and equity research.
Prior to joining HAI Group in 2023, she worked as a research analyst at MDRC, a nonprofit, nonpartisan education and social policy research organization. Prior to that she worked at The Charter Oak Group as a data consultant and quality assurance specialist, and before that at Conning as a data analyst on the data governance and risk team. Cate has conducted numerous independent research studies on the impacts of alternative education programs in the K-12 realm, including a study of Washington State’s Running Start, a program she participated in that allowed her to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in economics from Western Washington University with honors at nineteen years old. Cate also holds a master’s degree in public policy and a certificate in survey research from the University of Connecticut.
